It is the "Guarda Nacional Republicana" (i.e. "National Guard") rather than the "Polícia de Segurança Pública" (i.e. "Police") who are primarily responsible for the maintenance of law and order in rural (i.e. non-metropolitan) areas such as Santa Comba Dão and its parishes.
